1. What are the latest news around you and recently what do you fill the time with? Björn: The 4 songs from our first demo cd were recently re-released on a 5 way split cd called „The Kids strike back” by KB records. Also guitar player Holm from the band „Guts´n´Glory” has agreed to join us for the next 2 gigs, so we´re rehearsing with him at the moment. Kirsten: Work and band, going to gigs, drink and partying. 2. I think your band's name uniform game with the numbers, numerology and the alphabet. What means 77 (maybe GG) in name of your band? Do you believe in this tale that for example 18 meanings A and H like name of a mustached house-painter guy from the past, and I do not dare to say it.what means 88 (HH).. Björn: 77 just stands for punk rock, nothing else. Kirsten: I don´t think about it but some people seem to be very conscious about it. 3. Okay, let us talk about something else. Which member is the engine of Combat 77 from among you? Björn: It was me coming up with the idea of forming the band and writing most of the song ideas and lyrics. 4. I love all the female punk and oi singers, one of my fave was Wendy O’Williams, but from where came the idea that your singer should be female? Kirsten: It just happened because we wanted to play music and have fun. Björn: Kirsten and me had been in several bands before together (Annex5 and Vendetta), so we thought it´s a good idea to continue. 5. Your last year released 100% Oi album is fucking good in my view, but how liked it people in Germany and generally? If i am right, reissue or special edition of this album was out in China several months ago… Kirsten: Yeah, we have quite a few fans here in Germany and abroad as well. Björn: We got a license deal with Chinese label Kids Union Records who also organized the tour for us. The cd came out some months after our tour and includes a live video of the song „Unwanted Rebels” which was previously unreleased. 6. And if we are already at China, could you tell us a funny or a less funny story, which happened with you on China 2009 tour? Kirsten: There are so many funny stories to tell, we could write a whole book about it. Let me think ... well, our bass player Hannes had his green flat, we were in Beijing the first two days, and so many people were staring at him, pointing, taking pictures with their mobile phones and some of them were giggling. We thought ok, whatever, maybe they have never seen green hair before. Well it turned out that people back in the past in China had to wear green hats out in public when they did something wrong. So everybody knew they did something wrong, and with Hannes´ hair they associated this. We kept bugging him about it. Björn: You find the whole china tour report on our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/combat77oi 7. Did you try the art of eating with chopstick? Kirsten: Not all of us could eat with chopsticks but some of us were pretty good at eating with them. Sometimes it was funny because everything kept falling from the chopsticks or where you think you just made it and the food is just hanging out of your mouth. We had a good laugh at times. 8. You played in Berlin’s Punk & Disorderly fest too, any highlights or nice memory from it? Björn: It was great playing together with bands like „The Business” and „4 Skins”, and we got quite drunk afterwards... . Kirsten: The second night we were sitting backstage and drinking beer and Pfeffi (= peppermint schnapps). Our guitar player Dole drank too much and couldn´t find the door to the portable toilet. At the same time, the rest of us was sitting at a table and shouting: „No, on the other side...”. Finally he staggered out and sat down on a bench because he couldn´t find us. At the same time we were waving and shouting at him: „Hey, we´re over here...”. Dole was sitting, looking around quite confused, and after a minute or so (could have been longer, we lost track of time because we were laughing so much...), he finally saw us. Hey! Then Dole was spotting some guys from the band „The Bones” who were sitting at a table behind us. One of them had a pair of trousers on where you could see his crack. So Dole had nothing better to do than rip off small paper pieces from a flyer, rolling them into a tiny paperballs and throwing them in the guy´s bum crack. We almost fell off the benches because we were laughing so hard. It kept going until the guy turned around and gave him an evil eye. Dole then surrendered with a white napkin... . 9. What do you think about the bands who are bringin’ in the politics to our scene? I think of the extremes here… Björn: Oi! music shouldn´t necessarily have something to do with politics because it´s for having a laugh and a good time instead of severe thoughts or trying to direct the audience into any kind of political direction. Every person has his own political view, and it shouldn´t be enforced on someone else. 10. How big is the scene in Hannover and its neighbourhood? Do you have an own pub-sanctuary where you can play on every week-end? Björn: The Hannover scene is quite healthy at the moment, and there are quite a number of good streetpunk and oi! gigs going on in gig places like „Bei Chez Heinz” or „Musikzentrum”. Pub-wise there is a punk and oi! dj night nearly every Friday going on at the „Böse Wolf” pub in Hannover Linden. Beside this, we´re doing some Oi! BBQs in summer time in the Hannover Linden park area. 11. You had been already in Hungary, what kind of impressions have you obtained on our country? Did you taste our foods, like the fucking Hungarian goulash or anything? Kirsten: When we played in Hungary (we played Gyor and Szentes in October 2008) we were warmly greeted and the people were very friendly. The food was good, especially the second night when we stayed at the organizer´s place, and Alex´s mum and sister prepared excellent and very tasty food. It was great. Alex´s dad drank a home-made schnapps with us which was really cool and strong in taste. We enjoyed the gigs, and the audience was very thankful and enjoyed it. Great crowd. Björn: We had to travel quite a long distance the first day; we started from Halle (near Leipzig in the Eastern part of Germany) where we played a gig the night before. Travelling through Austria took us quite a long time so we arrived quite late in the evening for the first gig in Szentes. We were rushed to an apartment in a tower block complex in order to get some food first before playing our show. In order to reach the apartment we took the elevator, but as soon as the elevator door closed, the lights went out and we were stuck. Strange feeling, the elevator was packed and the first thing you think about is breathing deeply.... . Fortunately it didn´t took us long to open the goddamn thing with a bit of force. 12. Our fanzine have a special relay race question, from which another band and what would you ask in an interview? Björn: You mean an interview question for another band? Hmm, maybe I´d like to ask Cock Sparrer about a funny story that took place backstage when they were shooting their first video clip. 13. What is the next thing that you are already waiting for hardly? Kirsten: To play some new songs. Björn: We will record a studio version of our new song „Unwanted Rebels” very soon. 14. Any closing message for readers of Radical Roots fanzine? Björn: Eat more Gulyaskrem! Kirsten: Stay true to yourself, stick together, know who your friends are and support each other. Keep the Oi! punk scene alive! |
